Caribou Girl Scouts rock ‘n roll

Caribou area Girl Scouts have been keeping themselves busy, having lots of fun while helping others. The Scouts recently held a county-wide Sock Hop at the Caribou Wellness Center where the cost of admission was a new pair of socks that would be donated to the AMHC’s sexual assault hotline and as a result of this event 194 socks were collected. The girls also held a food drive during the sockhop, gathering five boxes of non-perishable food items which were donated to the Ecumenical Food Pantry.

The Girl Scouts enjoyed the music and dancing; their favorites were, “The Chicken Dance,” and “The Limbo.” Refreshments included a well-stocked treat table featuring everything from cookies and fudge to beverages, with very few items left to take home.
Another project the Caribou area Girl Scouts also enjoyed working on was creating tray favors for the residents at the Maine Veterans Home. Each troop chooses a holiday and delivers them to the home.
Members have been informed that there will be a Girl Scout float for them to ride on in the Holiday Lights Parade in Presque Isle on Saturday, Dec. 5, and some troops will go caroling at the Caribou Nursing Home with the girls meeting at the main lobby at 1:15p.m.
On Monday, Dec. 7, Santa will be at the Melody Roller Rink from 6 to 8 p.m. to skate and visit with area Girl Scouts. Area leaders will be holding their annual Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Holy Rosary Parish Center in Caribou starting at 6 p.m.
Girl Scout officers for the coming year were announced during the October meeting of the Diamond Area which includes Caribou. Officers are: Mariah Havens, neighborhood treasurer; Tammy Nadeau and Theresa Dube, neighborhood managers; Wendy Burtchell, orienteer; Tina Howell, neighborhood cookie supervisor; Christie Cochran, public relations coordinator and adult recognition committee; Theresa Dube, secretary and Kassy Belk and Alexis McCrossin, Scout members.
