To the editor:
Last week, one of the first phone calls was: “I have a strange question, and thought you could help me.” On average, at least half of all phone calls begin with this sentence. The young lady was calling from Portland, and wanted to speak to Santa (really). We were able to tell her that in fact, we’re lucky enough to have Santa vacation almost year-round in Caribou, and while it’s a secret, we did give her Santa’s vacation number. This call reminded me to let you know what we have planned with him, now that he’s done his vacation, and is back to his serious Santa work! Santa Claus will be arriving in town the day after Thanksgiving, to officially light our Caribou Tree (just behind our caribou statue in the downtown) about 5:30-6 p.m. He’s then going to go to the Fire Station, where a group of hardworking firemen moonlight as elves, to listen to everyone’s wish lists!
We at the Chamber are also lucky enough to be Santa elves this time of the year, and we’ll be taking pictures, and helping Santa give out a few special pre-holiday presents to some lucky little boys and girls! This year, Miss Jeannie, who is one of Santa’s official shoppers for especially cool gifts for very good boys and girls has gotten several hip things, so don’t forget to sign up (the drawings are free)! We’ll also be helping Santa write letters, so do call or stop in the offices anytime the next couple of weeks!
We’re thinking our Firemen Elves got some very good looking trees for the poles on Bennett Drive, so if you see them around town this season, be sure to tell them if you think the same thing!
Santa did ask us to remind you, our Chamber elves have gift certificates available, good at any business in town, and we’re also doing UPS and FedEx, so we can help you with all your special shipping needs to good children which might be on your Christmas list!
Santa also asked us to also tell you that it’s not too late to sign up for the silent auction for a picture of Caribou from the 150th celebration, and Kieffer Insurance and Real Estate is going be having a holiday decorating contest, so think lights and festivities with us, and decorate!
Lastly, thank you to all our RSVP elves for the pretty warm mittens for the girls and boys! Plan to go to the Presque Isle Light parade to see our Caribou Float on December 5th! We hope you’ll have a good Thanksgiving, and see you over the holidays the next month or so!
