HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS — Ayinna Maguire of Smyrna sits on Santa’s lap Saturday evening under the watchful eye of her mother Crystal Maguire at the annual Houlton Holiday Light Parade. Breezy, rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of the many spectators on hand for the popular yuletide event.
HOULTON — In spite of rain, wind and less than perfect weather, Lori Weston, executive director of the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce, said this year’s Holiday Light Parade was “once again an incredible event. The tree lighting and the visit with Santa was a real delight for the children.”

FREE WHEELIN’ — Cam Clark, son of Jayne and Bruce Clark of Houlton, skillfully rode a unicycle in the rain during Houlton’s Light Parade. Cam won first place in the non-float category for his efforts.
Police Chief Butch Asselin, according to Weston, estimated the crowd at 3,000 people which was similar to the number of spectators last year.

The winning entries for the 2009 Holiday Light Parade were judged, said Weston, on: theme, lights and creativity.

MINIATURE TOWN — Lights of all types were showcased during Saturday’s Holiday Light Parade. This float featured a collection of light-up miniature houses.
In the float category the winners were: first place ($100): Winslow Family/Chadwick Florist; second place (a tie, with $50 to each float entered): the combined Demara, Hill, Hena and Roberge family, and Nick Clark; third place($25): Tim McAtee – North Country Cruisers.

WISH LIST — Young Stewart Michaud gives a list to Santa during Saturday’s Holiday Light Parade in Houlton. Santa Claus made his inaugural visit to Houlton as part of the annual light parade.
In the non-float category, for entrants walking or in vehicles, the winners were: first place ($100): Cameron Clark; second place ($50): Houlton Fire Department; and, third Place ($25): Bill Larson.
