Thanks for the memories during Presque Isle’s Sesquicentennial

To the editor:
As another year is almost ready to come to a close, I would be remiss if I did not say a very heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who made 2009, Presque Isle’s Sesquicentennial, a fun-filled year to remember. So to all of you who generously gave of your time and talent for the various committees and events – thank you! Not only did you graciously give of yourself, but you have played an active role in the history of Presque Isle.     Thank you to the metal fabrication students at NMCC for fabricating the fabulous 6-foot star that was raised high over Presque Isle on New Year’s Eve 2008 to ring in the Sesquicentennial Year. Thank you to Eastern Star for the wonderful Victorian Tea in January. Thank you to the Mark & Emily Turner Library for hosting the Historical Society’s Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series every month during the year. Thank you to NMCC for an amazing Birthday Party in April. Thank you to the Presque Isle Post Office for working with us to ensure we had a special hand-cancelled stamp commemorating the Sesquicentennial. Thank you to the Caribou Chorale Society led by the irreplaceable Dan Ladner for the heavenly Historical Music Concert in May. Thank you to the James School for a brief view into what a one-room schoolhouse was like during their Open House. Thank you to the City and our Fire Department for raising the star and for the outstanding fireworks display in August.
Also, thank you to the Chamber, the Shriners, and every one who helped put together a great Sesquicentennial Parade in August. Thank you to Chris Smith (UMPI) for directing our very successful Sesquicentennial 5K Road Race. Thank you to WAGM and the Star-Herald for the great coverage you afforded us this year. Thank you to Northeast Publishing for working with the Historical Society to produce the beautiful collectible Sesquicentennial Calendar. Thank you to NMCC for hosting the Victorian Christmas celebration. And thank you to the committee working on the upcoming First Night celebration set for New Year’s Eve 2009!
There are many more groups and individuals that I cannot name here, but please know that the residents of Presque Isle, your fellow committee members, and I deeply appreciate every single moment you were able to work with us. Thank you and here’s to a safe, happy, healthy and prosperous 2010!
