“This is our high fire-danger time,” said Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods, “and I would just like to remind area residents that during this time of year, everyone needs to be especially alert to any possible fire hazards.
Woods said citizens are apt to have more candles burning in their homes during the holidays and need to be extremely cautious when these are being used. He also urged individuals to be aware of where flammable materials are placed.
“Everyone needs to be extra careful with electrical cords that are often overloaded or in poor condition and also to make sure the second way out of a residence hasn’t been blocked — make sure smoke detectors are in working order.”
