Houlton – Kenneth L. Blake, 85, died Dec. 16, 2009, at his residence. He was born June 4, 1924, at Houlton, the son of William and Iva (Day) Blake.
    Ken served as a medic in the US Army in the Philippine Islands with the 37th Infantry Division and the 148th Infantry Regiment during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly Church. He had a great love of the outdoors hunting, fishing, snowsledding and spending time at the camp on Grand Lake.
    Ken is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce (Godsoe) Blake of Houlton; his son, Roger and Denise Blake of Linneus and their children Jason, Ryan, Aaron, Alicia and Kent and their grandchildren Jordan, Joshua, Cooper, Noah, Sage, Tristen, Monica, Adrian, Alana, Lillian, Corey, Oakley, Evee, Ivy; three daughters, Margene and James Young of Windham and their children Tabrea, Sarah, Nicole, Joseph & Ryan and their grandchildren Natalie, Alison, McKenna, Madison, Dakoto, Justin and Jacob; Kristy and Greg Swallow of Hodgdon, Kendra Thornton of Houlton and her children Walker and Davan; one brother, Lawrence Blake of Houlton; two sisters, Eleanor Brown of Veazie, Joyce Hovey of Houlton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard; his sister, Vera; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia.
    Friends called at the Houlton Full Gospel Assembly Church Friday, Dec. 18th with military honors with Revs. Kevin Hatch and Brian Hovey officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers Ken’s family would ask that gifts be made to the Kenneth Blake Memorial Fund for Alzheimer’s Research, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton, 04730.
