Phipps, Ena E. Interment to be held in Arlington National Cemetery in the fall.
MERRILL – Ena Evelyn Noyes Phipps passed away Friday evening, January 29th, after an extended battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Merrill, Maine, she graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton, Maine, and Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she met her husband, Charles Merrick Phipps, Jr., a U. S. Army veteran who served in Europe, was held as a prisoner of war in Germany, and then graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, she is survived by their two children: daughter Sherry Phipps Pettyjohn and her husband, Jim, of Hartfield, Virginia, and their two daughters, Kara of Chicago, Illinois, and Lynn, of Richmond, Virginia; son, John Stephen Noyes Phipps and his wife Susan of Coatesville, Indiana, and their two sons William and his girlfriend Miranda Willette of Stacyville, Maine, and Charles and his wife, Vanessa, of Bath, Maine.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, Smyrna Mills, Maine, on July 10, 2010, with internment with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kilmarnock (VA) Cancer Center or The Nature Conservancy.
