Tune in tonight for County tribute

A documentary featuring the full length of Aroostook – from the Million Dollar View in Weston to the wilds of the Allagash, will air on Maine Public Broadcasting tonight at 10:30 p.m.
This film, “Greetings from Aroostook” made by Crown Of Maine Productions at Madawaska Lake, shows The County throughout the four seasons and showcases the people, places and wildlife that make Aroostook distinct as a region.

Shawn Berry, left, a sports medicine specialist in Cary Medical Center’s rehabilitation department, performs a grip strength analysis on Justin Murphy of Caribou, while Renee Cavagnaro, CT technologist at Cary, looks on during last year’s NMCC Job Fair. Cary Medical Center and Cary’s Healthy You Program are partners in this year’s job fair which will be held March 11.

“I was especially interested in highlighting the different cultures here – it is so exciting to have ethnic groups speaking Swedish and French – this place was even home to four thousand Germans during World War II, “ said Brenda Jepson of New Sweden, the film’s author.
These cultures and history are as much a part of the film as the moose, bear and deer that feature in the show. Outdoor activities are also included – from kayaking to cross country skiing. There’s a special segment on Aroostook State Park.
“I hope that folks who tune in will find themselves as surprised by Aroostook as I was when I left London, married the son of an Aroostook potato farmer, and settled here,” said Jepson.
“Aroostook is a rich cultural landscape and an outdoor paradise – it is a film maker’s dream,” said Jepson.
This is one of many films MPBN has transmitted in recent months made about Aroostook County. MPBN is pleased to have so many productions about Aroostook to transmit statewide – both the films Brenda and Alan Jepson make with her students and the films they make on their own.
“You have done a great service for northern Maine and the entire state,” said MPBN’s Laura Schenck of The County filmmakers. “Thanks to you, people are learning and connecting to Aroostook and northern Maine through your work and that’s a wonderful thing.”
Sponsors of “Greetings From Aroostook” are Monica’s Scandinavian Imports and Katahdin Trust Company.
