March Madness

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is kicking off March Madness with a basketball skills competition on Friday, March 26. This event is for grades 3-8 and goes from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

    Participants will be tested on their abilities to shoot, dribble and pass. If time allows, there will also be H-O-R-S-E and knock out competitions. There will also be a Wii slam dunk and horse competition.

Arts program

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will begin registration on March 31 for residents and April 7 for non-residents for their third session of the arts program.
The upcoming session’s themes are Puppet Theater and Mystery Box, and the session runs from April 27 to June 4. Grades 1-3 will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while grades 4-6 will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays, with all sessions running from 3-5:30 p.m. The cost of the program is $60 for Presque Isle residents, with an additional fee for non-residents.
There will also be a Mini Monets program for children ages 2-5 and their parents. The cost is $25 for Presque Isle residents and will be held on Friday mornings from 10-11 a.m. Call 764-2545 with any questions.

Zumba classes

The recreation department is offering a Zumba program. Classes will meet each Tuesday and Thursday through April 15 from 5:45-6:45 p.m. The drop in fee is $6 for those who have not signed up for a member deal. For more information, call 764-2545.

Indoor pool

The Presque Isle Indoor Pool has begun pre-paid registration for the March 22-May 30 swimming lessons session. The indoor pool offers a wide range of lessons for the very young, senior citizens and age groups in between.
Parent-toddler and infant classes are Tuesday at 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. or Saturday at 9 a.m. for infant and toddler six months to 3 years of age. Three-year-old lessons are Monday at 6 p.m., Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday at 1 p.m., Thursday at 10:30 a.m., Friday at 9:30 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Four to five year old lessons for those unable to swim 10 yards without assistance are Monday at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at 9 a.m., 3:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at 9 a.m., 3, 3:30 and 6 p.m.; Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 10 or 10:30 a.m.
Swimming three to five year old classes for those able to swim 10 yards without assistance are Monday at 7 p.m., Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. or 3 p.m., Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Advanced three to five year old classes are for those able to swim 15 yards without assistance. They  take place Monday at 1 p.m. or Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Learn to swim level one classes (for those 6 years old or older and unable to swim 15 yards) are Tuesday at 4 p.m., Thursday at 3, 4 or 6 p.m.
Learn to swim II classes for those able to swim 15 yards without assistance are Tuesday at 4 or 6 p.m., Wednesday at 6 p.m., Thursday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10 or 11 a.m.
Learn to Swim levels III and IV classes are Tuesday at 3 p.m., Wednesday at 2 p.m., Thursday at 3 or 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
Learn to swim levels V and VI classes are Tuesday at 4 p.m., Wednesday at 2 or 6 p.m., Thursday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
Adult lessons are Monday at 9 a.m. or Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Shallow water exercise classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. or Monday and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Deep-water exercise classes done with jogging belts  are Monday and Wednesday at 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.
Kayak lessons are Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m.
