Public invited to University Day activities

    PRESQUE ISLE — On Wednesday, April 14, the University of Maine at Presque Isle will host the ninth annual University Day, showcasing student work, research and community projects. This year’s theme is “Winds of Change: Propelling Progress and Sustainability.” All are invited to attend student-led presentations taking place throughout the day. The International Students Club will host Culturefest 2010, “Winds of Change Around the Globe,” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Pullen 210. In the evening, the University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series presents a free, public lecture by author Frank Schaeffer to speak on “Social Action & Religion: Hopeful Uncertainty in a Fundamentalist World.” A complete University Day schedule can be found at www.umpi.edu/uday.

 

Singer-songwriter Bearkat to perform

    PRESQUE ISLE — Indie folk songwriter Katy Pearson, otherwise known as Bearkat, will perform at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Wieden Auditorium, on Saturday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. Her style of music, influenced by her love of French culture and Russian heritage, has been compared to Feist, Tom Waits and the Ditty Bops. Travis Cyr, the organizer for the Arootsakoostik Music Festival, will serve as the opening act for Bearkat’s performance at UMPI. This concert is sponsored in part by Channel X Radio. Tickets are $10 for adults, $2 for students and free for UMPI, NMCC and SAGE students with valid ID. For more information, call 768-9452.
