HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton High School Alumni Association has announced an exciting opportunity taking place in conjunction with the Multi-Class Reunion scheduled for this summer. A beautiful queen size quilt entitled “North Star Remembered” has been handcrafted specifically for the occasion by four sisters who are Houlton High School alumni.
The “Cyr Sisters” are now known as Karen Gallop from the Class of ’64, LouAnn Ritchie ’68, Trisha McCarthy ’73 and Pam Mailman ’73. The sisters selected the name for the quilt to tie in with the Houlton High School yearbook which has been known for many years as The North Star. The Alumni Association also recently changed the name of their semi-annual newsletter to North Star News.
All four sisters have been quilting for years and chose to do this project together as a family project and as a way to help the Alumni Association raise funds. The Alumni Association funds are used to provide scholarships and to assist with projects at the High School. Last year the Alumni Association presented $47,500 in scholarship aid and have set a goal this year to present $50,000 in scholarships. Over the years the Association has contributed to projects at the High School including the Science Lab, Library, purchasing SmartBoards, Alumni Gymnasium floor, Houlton Community Arts Center project and many more.
Tickets for the “North Star Remembered” Quilt will be available through the Alumni Multi-Class Reunion schedule to run from July 4th-10th. The drawing will be held during the Gala Dinner Dance at the Millar Civic Center on Saturday, July 10th. Tickets will cost $5 for one and 6 for $20. Tickets can be purchased on the Alumni Association web site at www.houltonalumni.com.
Many activities are being planned for this summer’s reunion including an Alumni Social, Golf Scramble, Alumni Variety Show and participation in the 4th of July parade. Details are being updated on the Alumni web site.
The next planning meeting for the reunion will be held Thursday, April 15th at 7 p.m. at Houlton High School in the ATM room.
