Aroostook MRI receives ACR accreditation

PRESQUE ISLE — Aroostook MRI, LLC, in Presque Isle, has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Aroostook MRI is a joint venture between The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) and NEHE-MRI, LLC. Aroostook MRI provides MRI service with a fixed-base scanner housed and fully integrated in the J. Paul and Blanche Levesque Imaging Center at TAMC. Aroostook MRI is one of only two MRI providers in Aroostook County to have received ACR accreditation. New England Health Imaging — Houlton, a joint venture between NEHE-MRI and Houlton Regional Hospital, is also ACR accredited.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel, the capability of the facility’s equipment and the quality of the images produced. The surveyors report their finding to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. Accreditation by the ACR is considered the gold standard of quality in the MRI industry.
