HOULTON, Maine – In May, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Maine will host its tenth annual “Walk for Wishes” at 10 locations across Maine including Houlton on May 27. The Walk will start at the John Millar Civic Center. Registration and entertainment will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the walk will begin at 6 p.m. Other locations include Dennysville, Pittsfield, Bangor, Rockland, Cumberland, Auburn, Saco, Westbrook and York. To learn specific dates and to pre-register, visit www.mainewish.org
More than 900 children with life-threatening illnesses in Maine have received their greatest wish since the chapter opened its doors in 1992. Out of these wishes, 55 have been for children in Aroostook County. All wish children face a life-threatening medical condition and the magic of a wish helps to give them (and their family) a chance to dream about something other than doctors, hospitals, or missing school. In June, a wish will be granted to 9-year-old Leif from Littleton who wants a tree house complete with a security system so he can see who is coming and going.
This is a critical fundraiser for the local Foundation chapter, which grants a wish almost every five days to a Maine child. Adults who raise at least $100 and youths under 18 who raise at least $50 will receive a free “Walk for Wishes” t-shirt.
