Joe Bouchard, president of the Caribou Historical Society, recently invited a few people to lunch — nearly a 100 to be exact and on May 22, the entire American Legion Hall was a sea of red and purple, as Bouchard’s guests were all members of county Red Hat groups.

Members of the Main Event entertained Red Hat members during the recent fund-raiser luncheon hosted by the Caribou Historical Society.
The event was organized as a fund-raiser for the historical society and Bouchard took charge, sending invitations, securing a menu of chicken stew and a seafood chowder (prepared by Cindy’s Sub Shop) and served by society members as well as a number of Caribou High School NHS students) was topped off by homemade (by Bouchard) peanut butter pie.
The ladies were seated at tables set with white table cloths accented by a carnation placed at each setting. The afternoon event was filled with easy conversation, spontaneous laughter and musical entertainment was provided by The Main Event; Chloe Wheeler and members of the Red Hat groups themselves.
Bouchard stated, “I’m so pleased with everything, the food was great and I think everyone had a really good time. It’s nice to do something with a little style once in a while,” he added, “I’m already thinking about doing this same thing next year.” The energetic Bouchard was highly responsible for organizing the Sesquicentennial Ball, held last summer.
Red Hat Chapters were represented at the luncheon, hailing from Portage, Oakfield, Washburn, Caribou, Limestone, Perth Andover, Florence Ville, Presque Isle, Mapleton and Le Dames Rouge from the St. John Valley, among others.
The fund-raiser was to benefit the Caribou Historical Society’s barn project.
Chloe Wheeler entertained the Red Hat audience with a little bit of Johnny Cash vocals.
