    FORT FAIRFIELD – The Maine Potato Blossom Festival has numerous sporting events scheduled for July 13-18. Details of the competitions follow:
Wednesday. July 14
    The annual Potato Blossom Swim Meet is held at 9 a.m., with a rain date of July 15. The event is for ages 18 and under and the cost is $50/team. The action takes place at the Fort Fairfield Municipal Swimming Pool. Teams should register through their local recreation department.
Thursday, July 15
    A horseshoe tournament will take place beginning at 5 p.m. at the new pits on Riverside Park – West. Registration is at 5 p.m. and the tournament starts at 5:30 p.m. Participants should bring their own horseshoes. The cost is $5 per person or $10 per team. Cash prizes will be up for grabs. Fort Fairfield Boy Scout Troop 194 will be on site selling hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks to help support their many community functions.
Saturday, July 17
    A 3-Person Golf Scramble takes place beginning at 6:30 a.m. at Aroostook Valley Country Club. Pre-register with Steve Leitch at 1-800-980-8747.
    The Maine Potato Blossom Festival 5-Mile Road Race has registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. across from Hillside IGA on Main Street. Walkers will begin at 8:30 a.m. and runners at 9 a.m. The cost is $15 per person and the fee includes a T-shirt for first 50 to register. Contact Paul Lamoreau at 764-6517 for more information.
    At 3 p.m., registration begins for the Regatta on the Aroostook River, with the mass start getting under way at 5 p.m. at Forbes Landing, located approximately six miles north of Fort Fairfield on Route 161 (south side of river). The finish will be at the public boat landing just below the bridge in Fort Fairfield. The race consists of approximately 6.5 miles of flat water.     (The Maine Potato Blossom Festival Triathlon combines a participant’s running time from Saturday’s Potato Blossom 5 Mile Road Race, the canoe/kayak time from Saturday’s Regatta On The Aroostook and the cycling time from Sunday’s Spud Cycle Classic Bike Race. Sunday, July 18
    The annual Spud Cycle Classic Bike Race will offer registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gym. The 25-mile race begins at 10 a.m. at the Blockhouse on Main Street and ends at Hillcrest Estates. The cost is $15 per rider. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 to register. The youth bike race, which has a registration fee of $2, begins at 11:30 a.m. and starts and ends at community center. Contact Mojo at 760-9500.
    The Pine and Spurs Riding Club’s horse show will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on the Maple Grove Road.
    Registration for the Aroostook Medical Center Kids Olympics will be held beginning at 1 p.m. at community center gym. Participants need to wear gym shoes. Three-point shots, sprints, soccer penalty kicks, and more will be included. The top winners will win an MP3 player. All children are encouraged to compete. A free hot dog roast will be held, with prizes going to all competitors. There will be a bouncy house for the little ones, so bring the entire family.
