Three-race regatta begins Saturday on East Grand Lake

The Peter’s Cove Yacht Club, a informal group of sailing enthusiasts from East Grand Lake, will be holding a three-race regatta again this summer.
The first of the three races will take place on July 17, with the second and third races on July 31 and August 14. There are currently 14 sailors registered, but any other sailors and crew are welcome to participate. For more information, call Paul LaPointe at 207-532-7926.
Sailors must register between noon and 12:15 p.m. the day of the first race on the shore of Halfmoon Island. Those intending to register for the regatta should notify LaPointe in advance.
On the day of the first race, the annual meeting of the Chiputnecticut Lakes International Conservancy, a non-profit organization (CLIC) will be held at the Grange Hall on Route 1 in Weston. While reservations for the post-race dinner should have been made by July 12, anyone is welcome to attend the meeting. People gather at 4 p.m., the meeting and elections will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the buffet dinner at 6 p.m.
CLIC acts as advocates for those on and around the Upper St. Croix River Watershed’s five Chiputneticook Lakes: North, East Grand, Mud, Spednic and Palfrey, as well as for those on Deering Lake in Orient and Bracket Lake in Weston.
On July 31, the day of the second Peter Cove Yacht Club race, CLIC will host its annual hot dog roast on Halfmoon Island at noon. It is open to all, CLIC member or not. Those living on the Canadian shore need to check with American customs before landing on Halfmoon Island.
