Linneus man critical after car-moose crash
NEW LIMERICK — A 22-year-old Linneus man remains in critical condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor Tuesday following a car-moose collision Sunday evening on Route 2 in New Limerick.
According to police reports, Nathaniel Caddy suffered serious head injuries when his vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Corolla struck a moose. He was initially taken to Houlton Regional Hospital, but then transported to EMMC via helicopter.
Caddy’s two young children, who were seated in the rear of the vehicle in child-safety seats, were also taken to Houlton Regional Hospital, but were later released.
The moose Caddy struck crossed into the eastbound lane of Route 2 after first being hit by 1999 Ford Ranger driven by Eric Carr, 59 of Island Falls. Carr was traveling west on Route 2 when the bullmoose crossed into his path. After striking Carr’s vehicle, the moose entered into the path of Caddy’s vehicle where it was struck a second time.
Houlton Fire Chief Milton Cone said three ambulances were dispatched to the scene and that Caddy had to be extracted from his vehicle. Neither Carr, nor the two passengers in his vehicle were injured, according to Cone.
The accident remains under investigation by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department.
Both vehicles were destroyed.
