Cary Library receives funds for video transfer

The Houlton Historic Video Committee has donated all remaining funds and assets to the Cary Library. These funds, exceeding $5,000, will be restricted for use for historic preservation and access. The library is currently digitizing Houlton’s local newspapers dating back to 1858. This project was started by a generous grant from Charles Starkey and will receive further funding from this year’s Rotary Auction. The Video Committtee recognizes the importance of this work and wishes to lend its support.
The HHVC was formed in 2003 with the goal of creating “The Story of Houlton” in video format for Houlton’s Bicentennial in 2007. A secondary goal was to have the video air on MPBN. Both of these goals have been achieved.
The Committee consisted of Gregory Swallow, Richard Hammond, Michael Fawcett, Max Lynds, Kay Bell, Richard Rhoda, Peter and Joyce Fitzpatrick, Eugene Jackins and Leigh Cummings, Jr.
The Committee wishes to thank all its sponsors and contributors for their generous support. Organizers further wish to especially thank Gregory Swallow and Richard Hammond for spearheading this effort and Mike Fawcett and the Idea Factory for making the historic video a reality.
