Caribou girls 2nd, boys win at Old Town

OLD TOWN — The Caribou and Presque Isle cross-country teams posted solid efforts in Saturday’s 61st Old Town Sectional Invitational. The 3.1-mile race, ran under unseasonably hot conditions for fall, also featured runners from John Bapst, Foxcroft Academy, Mount Desert Island, Schenck, Mattanawcook and Orono.

The Wildcats and Vikings must now ready themselves for the challenging Festival of Champions event Saturday in Belfast, which serves as a prelude to the Eastern Class B championship Oct. 23, also in Belfast.

Caribou won the boys competition with 20 points. The other team scores were John Bapst, 58; Mount Desert Island 86; Presque Isle, 99; Old Town, 103; Orono, 156; and Schenck, 191. The girls team scores were: John Bapst, 34; Caribou, 57; Mount Desert Island, 64; Presque Isle, 96; Old Town, 128; and Orono, 152.

In the boys race, the individual Viking and Wildcat results were: 1, Caleb Chapman, Car, 17:13.02; 3, DJ Flynn, Car, 17:31.27; 4, Christian Sleeper, Car, 17:51.59; 5, Matt Eager, PI, 18:05.89; 7, Ryan Washington, Car, 18:26.31; 9, Jake Michaud, Car, 18:42.28; 14, Logan Thibeau, PI, 19:07.23; 15, Kjetil Rossignol, Car, 19:17.09; 21, Charm Karunsari, Car, 19:49.39; 27, Saul Nunez, PI; 20:24.56; 34, Trevor Levesque, 21:02.07; 36, Matt Tilley, PI, 21:22.93; 38, Michael Donovan, PI, 21:44.36; and 50, Tyler Michaud, 25:02.29.
