A week after the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors’ winning streak was broken, the boys varsity soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in Stacyville.
The Warriors fell to the Cougars, 4-2.
“They played very well and seemed to want it more than us,” said Warrior coach Cliff Urquhart.
Katahdin’s Kolby Gallagher scored all four goals in the win.
“He’s a special player who can really dominate a game when he’s in the right frame of mind, and he did it Saturday,” said Urquhart.
With SACS’ first loss, they are now resting at 9-1.
The Warriors were scheduled to play Greenville yesterday in a battle between the number one seeds in Class D Eastern and Western Maine.
On Thursday, the Warriors will host Lee Academy at 3:30 p.m., who they defeated in overtime in their first meeting of the year.
In other action, the Warriors overpowered Ashland, 7-2 last Wednesday and defeated Lee in overtime on Sept. 17.
At Presque Isle, the Warriors were led by Jake Lassonde and Patrick Goodall, who each scored three goals. Lassonde added an assist, while Dylan Willette scored and assisted on another goal.

For Ashland, Kenny Tarr and Royce MacDonald scored a goal and had an assist apiece for the 0-8-1 Hornets. Freshman netkeeper Tyler Chasse was busy, racking up 26 saves against 33 shots.
On Sept. 17 in Lee, the Warriors needed overtime to break a scoreless tie at regulation for the win.
SACS’ Goodall headed a solid cross from Anthony Diaferio on the left side dead center into the net with 20 seconds left for the victory.
For the Warriors, Boulier saved eight of 10 shots for the shutout.
For Lee, goalie Devin Peters got a hand on the header, but couldn’t get enough of the ball, finishing with turning back 13 of 18 shots faced.
On Monday, the eighth-placed Cougars defeated visiting Ashland, 9-1 behind four goals from Mickey Savage and two apiece from Gallagher and Brenden Landry. Jordan Pelkey added another score, while Micah Rodgerson, Makayla Patterson and Jesse McNally all had assists.
McNally and Patterson combined in goal to stop eight of 12 shots.
For Ashland, goalie Tyler Chasse had 13 blocks on 22 shots.
Last Thursday, the Cougars were overpowered by visiting Bangor Christian, 7-1.
Gallagher scored a second-half goal for the Cougars, while combining in goal McNally and Patterson blocked 21 of 37 shots faced.
Bangor Christian goalie Tyler Alexander saved eight of 13 shots.
The Cougars will host East Grand at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, with Katahdin traveling to Houlton for a game on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
