Seasoned worker forums
slated for mid-October
By Kathy McCarty
Two separate seasoned worker forums have been scheduled in Aroostook County this fall. The first will take place in Madawaska at the ACAP Employment and Training Center, 88 Fox St., on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The second forum is scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Presque Isle CareerCenter, 66 Spruce St. Both events are scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and noon.
Dave Tomm, president of the Seasoned Workforce LLC of Rockland, said the forums are designed to gather information and determine the needs of today’s workforce, given the aging population.
“What is happening to jobs? The 21st Century will be unique in the history of the industrialized world and much will center on the aging population,” said Tomm. “It will be the first time in modern history where populations will begin to shrink.”
According to Tomm, birthrates are down and our population is aging rapidly and people are living longer.
“These more seasoned generations can, and must, continue to contribute to our world. Our seasoned worker forums investigate the economic problems, the needs of our workers, benefits of working longer and the opportunities for older workers through open discussions with area businesses,” said Tomm.
Public input is welcome.
“To contribute your ideas, improve your hire potential and even discover job opportunities, put one of these forums on your calendar,” said Tomm.
For more information about older worker issues, the Seasoned Workforce website, www.seasonedworkforce.com, provides important information, news and helpful links for seasoned workers and to age-neutral employers.
The events are funded, in part, by a moneys awarded under the President’s Community-Based Job Training Grants, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration, in collaboration with Maine’s four workforce investment boards. This activity is an equal opportunity employer/program — auxiliary aides and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities. There is no cost to attendees.
The forums are being sponsored by the ACAP Employment and Training and the Presque Isle CareerCenter, in conjunction with Seasoned Workforce LLC and several local businesses.
