Beverly P. Rand, formerly of Sherman and now of Island Falls, describes himself as a farmer. For many years he did just that; farming potatoes and dairying cows on the family farm. During much of this time, Rand has also told and written stories. From his own experiences, writing down tales about and from friends and family, Rand has, through the years, managed to entertain many with fact and fiction woven into tales of life. “Fred Perkins Stories,” “Model Camp,” “Aroostook County Retired Farmer Writes,” and “Short Stories” are just a few of his published works, being assorted tales of friends and family, hunting, fishing and winter snow sledding.
Now Rand has published a new book. “My Story: the Life of a Maine Potato and Dairy Farmer” begins with his date of birth, May 25, 1915, and ends with his musings at age 95, supposing that he might live to see 100. A family story of growing up, schooling, marriage and raising children is woven with farm tales, places lived and visited and honors received. It is a good nostalgic read for any who know Rand personally or enjoy real stores about everyday life.
The public is invited to a book signing, Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Katahdin Public Library in Island Falls from 1 – 3 p.m. Rand will be on hand to sign copies of his book, which sells for $16.95. Light refreshments will be served with coffee.
