Historically, in every class there hails a leader, someone who naturally just volunteers, steps up to the plate —then finds themself filling that role on a regular basis — or in the case of Caribou’s Don Susee, 57 years later.

Kenton Nadeau, left, a member of the Caribou High School Class of 1953, participated in the donation of John C. Maxwell’s “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect” to Diane Dubois, Caribou Public Library director. The book was dedicated in continuing recognition of Don Susee, right, who served as CHS Class of 1953 president and who remains the chief organizer for reunions, which are now held each year.
Susee, was elected as president of the Caribou High School Class of 1953, when he was a junior, “I guess I must have done a good job that year, because I didn’t even have to campaign for the office the next year.”
Recently, Susee’s classmates recognized his ongoing efforts to keep classmates united, by organizing milestone reunions and, since their 50th reunion, by making sure communications go out in advance, so class members can gather every summer. “Since our 50th reunion,” said Susee, “those that can, all meet every year. I send out all the letters, keep all the correspondence and we all get together for a breakfast reunion.”
This year, the Class of 1953 purchased a book by John C. Maxwell, titled, “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect,” which was donated to the Caribou Public Library in Susee’s honor.
On hand to assist with the book dedication was Diane Dubois, library director and Kenton Nadeau, a 1953 classmate and longtime friend of Susee’s.
The copy of this book, signed by Susee, is available at the library at this time.
