The First Friday Arts Walk will be at the Wintergreen Arts Center, located at 149 State St. in Presque Isle, on Friday, Dec. 3, from 6-9 p.m., and features handcrafted furniture by local artisan Terry Kelly, who specializes in Windsor chairs, as pictured here.

Kelly, of Mapleton, is considered one of the top furniture makers in New England. He brings 15 years’ of experience to building some of the finest Shaker reproductions to be found anywhere. About six years ago, wanting to explore a different type of furniture, he began building Windsor chairs — a style of chair that is roughly defined as having all parts anchored to a seat. They are some of the most beautiful chairs to be found, with turnings and hand-worked details that give a delicateness to the chairs that belies their strength. Top it off with a hand-applied, multi-layered finish, and you have functional works of art that will be on display throughout the month of December. For a preview, you can visit his website at www.tkellyfurniture.com.

This year’s LIVE Gingerbread House competition will also be held on Friday, Dec. 3, from 6-9 p.m., as part of the First Friday Arts Walk. “LIVE” contestants will bring their pre-baked gingerbread pieces, royal icing, decorating tools and candies to assemble their houses in three hours from start to finish. The competition is open to all ages, there is no fee to enter and there will be prizes awarded in several categories, including a child’s Best of Show. A special Opening Party for all of the gingerbread entries is being planned for Saturday, Dec. 4, from 6-7 p.m. to coincide with the Presque Isle Light Parade which begins at 7 p.m. Wintergreen is planning a free and “magical” night with the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church Bell Choir performing holiday music. Award winners will also be announced during the party on Dec. 4. For more information about the 4th annual Gingerbread Festival, visit www.wintergreenarts.org or call 762-3675 or 551-0936.
