UMPI Community Band
to perform Dec. 20
PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Community Band will present their annual Winter Concert on Monday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium on the UMPI campus.
This year’s concert will feature the band’s rendition of “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky, conducted by UMPI Community Band Director Kevin Kinsey. Kinsey will also direct the band in “The New Colonial March” by the late “Maine March King.” R.B. Hall.
The concert will feature guest conductors from local high schools. Sean Diette, the band director at Washburn schools, will direct “Rampage” by Todd Stalter. Robert King, band director emeritus from Limestone schools, will conduct “Amber Waves of Grain;” — symphonic rhapsody on “America the Beautiful.”
The holiday portion of the concert will begin with an arrangement of the “Hallelujah Chorus” conducted by Patrick Bragdon, middle school band director for SAD 1. Adam Meltzer, director of bands in Mars Hill, will continue the holiday theme with “Fanfare” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” The concert will close with Jon Simonoff, band director of the Ashland School District, conducting “His Honor March” by Henry Fillmore.
The concert is free and open to the public. Wieden Auditorium is handicapped-accessible.
