With less than two months before the World Cup Biathlon festivities set to take place in Aroostook County, organizers are actively seeking volunteers and housing for the many participants and visitors expected to attend.
“We need the public’s help, both for housing and volunteers,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director, Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber is already getting requests for housing, so if anyone has something available, we need to know ASAP.”
From Feb. 4-6, 2011, Fowler said visitors from around the world will be coming to Presque Isle to attend the biathlon. She’s asking anyone who might have room to spare to contact the Chamber.
“We’re looking for residents in Presque Isle that have available houses, rooms or cabins and are willing to rent to visitors who have traveled here for the biathlon,” said Fowler, adding this is a great way to provide much-needed accommodations.
“This is a great opportunity to extend County hospitality and make new acquaintances,” she said.
Fowler noted that some of these people will also be staying for the event scheduled in Fort Kent.
“This is The County’s Super Bowl. These people will be traveling great distances and will really appreciate all the help and generosity from residents of the city of Presque Isle and the area,” said Fowler.
Vacancies beyond Presque Isle are also being considered as housing options, as space fills up. Many volunteers will be needed to make this a world-class event.
“If you are willing to help out, please send the information about your facilities to: PIACC, 3 Houlton Rd, Presque Isle, ME 04769, e-mail info@pichamber.com or call 764-6561,” said Fowler.
