    Gary Sanders passed away peacefully Saturday, December 18, 2010 after a long and valiant battle with leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Lena Sanders; brothers, Shirley, Donald, Lester and sister, Madelene of Maine.
    Gary was a true gentleman and a person of great integrity and wit, devoted to his family, his faith, his country, and his friends.
    He enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling, and woodworking. Born in northern Maine, he joined the United States Army after graduation from high school and was a distinguished member of the Military Intelligence community for 23 years. After his retirement from the military, he worked for and retired from the GE Corporation. Gary relocated to Knoxville, TN in 1997.
    Gary was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Sevierville, TN, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America and spent many years as a coach and mentor with little and minor league baseball.
    He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Alice; children, Ronald (Tricia) Sanders, Teresa (Mark) Soto, Jeffery (Kathy) Sanders, all of northern California, Michael (Lisa) Sanders, Texas and LeAnne (Rob) Baker, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, Tanya Sanders, Danielle Brown, Josh Soto, Ben Soto, Jessica Sanders, Shelby Sanders, Tiffany Baker, Brianne Sanders, Alysha Sanders, Amanda Sanders, Caleb Sanders; three great-grandchildren, Kylee, Zander and Haven Soto. He is also survived by his brother, Lawrence (Peggy) Sanders; sisters, Viola (Carroll) Hersey, Starr McAdams, all of northern Maine.
