The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Dec. 20.
Easton 70, Fort Fairfield 43 – The Bears are a perfect 4-0 after easing past the Fort Fairfield Tigers at home Monday.
Reid Clark’s 20 points led Easton, who went on top by 15 points after one quarter and stayed in control. Holden Turner and Jared Hafford both totaled 12 points for the Bears.
Travis Noyes led the 2-2 Tigers with 16 points and Dylan Caldwell tossed in 10.
Caribou 43, Old Town 29 – The Vikes’ home debut Saturday was a successful one as they downed the Coyotes in another defensive struggle.
Matt Till fired in 13 points, while Stephen St. Peter and Roland Thibodeau tossed in 10 each for the winners, who improved to 3-0.
Caribou played well on the defensive end throughout the game, but especially in the second quarter when the team limited Old Town to just two points.
Garett Libby’s eight points were tops for the Coyotes.
Washburn 79, Van Buren 50 – A balanced offense and an opportunistic defense led the Beavers to the victory in their first home game of the season Friday.
All four starters scored in double figures and the fifth fell just short with nine points. Washburn’s pressure defense forced the visiting Crusaders into numerous turnovers, which the Beavers often turned into points.
Mitch Worcester scored a game-high 21 points for the winners, while Jordan McLaughlin totalled 18 and Chase Chandler and Mason Turner 12 and 10, respectively. Connor Fitzpatrick had nine for the 3-0 Beavers.
McLaughlin collected 11 steals and Chandler led the way in rebounds with 12.
Eric LaPlante’s 13 points led Van Buren.
Ashland 55, Limestone-MSSM 47 – The Hornets managed their first victory of the season in the new Ashland District School gymnasium Friday on the strength of a 20-point, 15-rebound performance by Levesque. The sophomore forward established career bests in both categories.
Ashland survived a lackluster effort from the foul line (14 of 38 overall) in picking up the win. Kenny Tarr scored 18 points, Alex Chasse hit a pair of three-pointers and Keith Holmes connected on a pair of clutch free throws to lead the Hornet offense.
Josh Forsman scored 12 points and Zach Cote totaled nine, including a pair of threes, for the winless Eagles.
Fort Fairfield 66, Hodgdon 40 – The Tigers bounced back from the season-opening loss to Central Aroostook with a lopsided road win over Hodgdon Thursday.
Noyes poured in 21 points and Dereck Dufour notched 15 more as the Tigers used a 21-8 run in the second quarter to put the game away.
Nick Lunn led the Hawks with 15 points.
Caribou 46, Mattanawcook 42 — At Lincoln Thursday, the Vikings made it two road wins in a row with another strong defensive outing.
St. Peter, a senior forward, scored a career-best 14 points to lead Caribou. He went 10 of 12 from the foul line. Thibodeau also notched a career-high in points with 11 and added eight steals. Teammate Chad Caverhill added 10 points, including a 6-of-8 effort from the free throw stripe in the final quarter.
Caribou allowed just eight first-half points (while scoring 21), but had to withstand a three-point barrage by Mattanawcook in the second half. The Lynx got to within four points at the end of the third and closed it to 42-40 in the late going before Caribou hit four consecutive foul shots down the stretch to close it out.
Matt Voisine scored 15 points for Mattanawcook.
Easton 61, Limestone-MSSM 47 – The Bears used Reid Clark’s 13-point effort last Wednesday to spearhead their victory over the Eagles last Wednesday in Limestone.
