Coyotes pounce on ’Cat skaters

ORONO – The Wildcat hockey team spotted the host Old Town Coyotes a 5-0 lead after one period and lost the road match, 10-5, Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena.

Old Town actually led 4-0 before three minutes had been played. Presque Isle rallied in the second period with three unanswered goals, one by Caleb Buck and the other two by Connor Shaw, but the Coyotes closed out the period with three goals of their own, including two in the final 29 seconds.

Shaw completed the hat trick with a third-period goal, while Adam Flynn closed out the Wildcats’ scoring with a goal of his own with less than five minutes to play, but Old Town was too much and handed Presque Isle its eighth loss of the season against five victories.

Flynn picked up two assists in the game, while Isaac LaJoie posted three. Jacob Buck, Tyler Seeley and Shaw notched one apiece.

Josh MacFarline played the first period in goal for PI before Nic Davis took over the rest of the way. Old Town held a slim 22-20 advantage in shots on goal during the game.

PI hosted Houlton-Hodgdon last night and plays at Orono tonight, again at the Alfond beginning at 7:15 p.m.
