On Feb 13, Clayton Webb was guest of honor at a birthday party held at his home to celebrate his 87th birthday. Several friends dropped by in the afternoon and some brought musical instruments and everyone enjoyed a sing-along, especially Clayton, as he really enjoys singing and has sung many times at the country jamboree held here in Island Falls. Refreshments were served during the afternoon and a birthday cake was presented to him from Mary Pipes, who is an avid country jamboree fan.
Mary Lou Pomeroy and daughter, Jane Foster, and Patti Hartin have been recent visitors at my home. They all enjoyed an afternoon of reminiscing and later in the afternoon Mary Lou and Jane returned home to Caribou, enjoying the sunny weather after many days of no sun.
I have lots and lots of birds at my feeders and have been really busy keeping the feeders full and the peanut-butter and lard mixture out on the limbs of the cedar tree where the woodpeckers, nuthatches, red polls, and pine siskin do a fast job of eating it all up. I have been putting out breadcrumbs and cracker crumbs, too which they all like.
I now have about four deer that arrive in the evening between 4:30 and 6 p.m. After the recent snow my front yard was full of tracks and even way up on some of the snow banks. I am still putting out the apples and bread and they really devour that fast. If I am lucky, and not busy in the house, I get to see them when they are eating. They are very cautious and keep an eye on the area around them and if something alarms them, off they go. It’s fun to watch all the wild life around these parts.
