Fairpoint expands Internet coverage

PORTLAND — More Mainers can quickly e-mail photos, download music and surf the Internet now that FairPoint Communications has expanded broadband service to more than 3,000 additional homes and businesses in parts of Aroostook County. To some in these communities this is the first time FairPoint’s high-speed Internet service has been available.
Since April 2008, FairPoint has invested more than $152 million in the communications infrastructure and technology to bring broadband to northern New England, including building over 1,500 miles of new fiber across the region. FairPoint’s new fiber-based, high-capacity network — called VantagePoint(sm) — offers customers a better, faster way to communicate.
This Aroostook County expansion was part of FairPoint’s recent expansion that increased broadband access to approximately 83 percent of its service areas in Maine. FairPoint has invested more than $39 million in Maine which has increased broadband availability from approximately 68 percent in 2008 to the current 83 percent availability.
The new high-speed connection areas include portions of the following communities in Aroostook County: Presque Isle, Grand Isle, Frenchville, Houlton, Linneus, Littleton, Monticello, Madawaska, New Sweden, Limestone and Van Buren.
