“What are your feelings about the death of al-Qaeda leader and architect of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on America, Osama bin Laden?”
Houlton Pioneer Times intern Doug Dickinson spoke to area residents on Monday
Kathy Bartley, Houlton
“I think it’s awesome. I just hope they pull the troops out now. I have sons (Josh Thomas and Kyle Thomas) who are serving and I don’t really want to see them go over.”
“I’m tickled to death that America’s done their job. God bless them.”
Eric Dorr, Houlton
“I guess it took a long time but it’s finally over. I think it’s a good morale booster. It’s one of the main goals that they’ve been hoping for the last 10 years.”
“I think it could be good but in ways it could also be bad. It may start other things, like another terrorist attack. I think it might be good in the way that we don’t have to worry so much but you never really know.“
Luke Jones, Houlton
“I was very happy to hear that we had finally captured him and finished off the main adversary in the war against terror. Hopefully it will put an end to the war in general and everybody who is still fighting over there will have a chance to come back.”
“I guess I’m glad he’s dead. It’s taken years and years for this mission to be complete and now maybe our other efforts with establishing democracy will be realized a little sooner and, if not, maybe we should come home.”
Lois Downing, Houlton
“I’m glad he’s gone. He did a lot of damage to the country. I’m sure that a lot of people feel the same way.”
