Lending a hand for Landen

To the editor:

We would like to take this time to thank each and every individual who helped raise funds for 5-year-old Landen Lee Owens of Limestone, who died on April 17, 2011, after a hard fought battle with childhood cancer.

The website, “Lending a Hand for Landen,” created by Merry Bragg and myself was a huge success, raising $3,020 in just over three weeks. The goal of the site was to raise enough funds to help with expenses for a memorial monument of Lightning McQueen, Landen’s favorite character from the popular movie, “Cars.”

We are proud to announce that on May 7, we presented Aroostook Monuments with the funds needed. For those of you wishing to visit Landen at his final resting place, the monument will arrive at Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou in July.

This has been a bittersweet undertaking for both Merry and me, and it goes without saying that we are proud to be among such caring individuals. Without all of you who donated to this wonderful cause, this would not have been feasible. So from the bottom of our hearts, we thank every person involved. May God bless you all for your kindness and generosity in these tough and trying times. There are truly angels among us.
