Eight-year-old Hadley McLean, the daughter of Tim and Holly McLean of Presque Isle was recently named the Cubby’s May Hero of the Month.
Diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive malignant brain tumor, Hadley underwent surgery on April 12, at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. Since being flown to Boston on an emergency flight April 8, her parents haven’t left her side. Hadley will be facing a very long road of recovery including therapy, radiation treatments and chemotherapy.
The young lady adores her Mom and is Daddy’s little girl, enjoying going to McDonald’s or Tim Horton’s for mochas and ice cream. She is also known to help her Dad at Portland Glass, where he is the store manager. She also has a brother, Hayden and likes to follow him around, sharing special times playing games and doing things on the computer.
Hadley is described as a vibrant, beautiful little girl, courteous, caring and very compassionate — she is like a magnet, she just attracts others to herself — remaining in one’s heart forever.
A very active 8-year-old, Hadley loves dancing, playing the piano and spending time with her grandparents, going fishing, taking bike rides and working in the garden .
Hadley attended the second-grade at Pine Street School in Presque Isle this year.
Cindy and Christopher Johnson, proprietors of The Cubby locations in Caribou and Presque Isle, routinely recognize a local child or family who is or has faced extreme challenges in their life. “It’s just our way of giving back to others in the communities around us,” Cindy Johnson has said. “We know how difficult and expensive it is for families who must travel to medical appointments with their children.”
In recognition of Hadley and the major challenges she is now battling, The Cubby made a monetary donation to the benefit which was held for Hadley on May14.
“We just encourage everyone to keep Hadley and her family in their thoughts and prayers,” said Cindy Johnson, “this is a rough situation and they have a long road ahead of them.”
