American Flag ColorPT Herschel McIntosh    HOULTON – Herschel Kennenth McIntosh 94, died July 21, 2011 at a local healthcare facility. He was born Dec. 24, 1916 in Littleton, the son of Kenneth and Viola (Porter) McIntosh.
    Herschel graduated valedictorian of Houlton High School, Class of 1933, and graduated from Maine School of Commerce, Class of 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
    Herschel was a member of the Houlton United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and financial secretary for 20 years. He also served on the Board of Trustees and many committees for many years. He was employed by George Pennington for 8 years and was co-owner and accountant for L.E. MacNair Company for 33 years. Herschel was a member of the Monument Lodge No. 96, A.F. & A.M. and was Past Master, Past Senior Grand Warden, Past Grand Marshall and Past Assistant Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Maine. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Bangor, the Board of Governors for 32° Learning Center, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Portland, the 33rd Member of the Supreme Council, the Aroostook Royal Arch Chapter No. 20, the St. Aldemar’s Commandery, No. 17, Knights Templar and Aroostook Council, No. 16, R. & S.M. He was the oldest living Past Potentate of the Anah Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Bangor and was Past Director of Bangor Court Royal Order of Jesters Cabari Chapter #139 and a member of the Aroostook County Shrine Club. He was Past Patron of the Fidelity Chapter #32 and Lunar Chapter #126, Order of the Eastern Star. Herschel served on the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army, was an 81-year member of the Houlton Grange, a member of the Houlton Rotary Club, serving as treasurer and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a member of the National Association of Accountants. Herschel enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited many of the U.S. States as well as many foreign countries. He climbed Mt. Katahdin in 1986 at the age of 70. Family and fraternal organizations were a very important part of his life but his greatest joy was living at the cottage at Nickerson Lake.
    Herschel is survived by his wife of 70 years Mildred (Bither) McIntosh and several much loved nieces and nephews, special nieces Joann Hoskins Goldstein of Punta Gorda, FL and Jane Weston and her children of Eddington.
    Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Dunn Funeral Home with a Masonic service held at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Naomi Sam’Kpakra officiating. Interment was in the Linneus Cemetery.
