Coast-to-Coast Baseball invites local players ages 10-18 to a tryout on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
The tryouts start at 10 a.m., with a hitting camp at 2 p.m.
At the tryout, staff will evaluate skills in four areas: hitting, fielding, arm strength and speed.
Since the summer of 2001, more than 2,000 athletes in four age divisions from 46 different states have participated in the Coast-to-Coast Baseball program. Alumni compete at the collegiate and even professional levels.
Players who are accepted to the program may choose to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico, like Parker Walker and Will McGary of Southern Aroostook; or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at the Camp and Showcase events in Florida or Arizona at the MLB spring-training complex.
In addition to the tryout, a hitting camp will be held the same day. The goal of the camp is to help players improve hitting fundamentals as well as their mental approach at the plate.
