FIRST PLACE — Nick Haggan placed first in the Student Kayak division with a race time of 17:24 minutes.
Twelve hardy boats with 17 paddlers braved the threat of rain to participate July 30 in the Island Falls Lakes Association (IFLA) annual Around-the-Pond Canoe/Kayak Races at Birch Point Lodge and Campgrounds on Pleasant Lake in Island Falls, raising over $220 for the IFLA Scholarship in the Dollars for Scholars program.
The races are sponsored by Birch Point, Jerry’s Thriftway, Bishop’s Market, Whitey’s Market, Island Falls One-Stop, Va-Jo-Wa Golf Course and Porter’s Restaurant.
Although the number of participants was down due to the threatening weather, all paddlers had a great time and got a free T-shirt and prizes.
