WADE – Donald Thompson Sr., 69, went on to higher ground, at his home, while surrounded by his family, on August 11, 2011. He was born to Kenneth and Margaret Stairs Thompson on Jan. 3, 1942, in Wade, where he lived all his life.
Donald’s greatest joy was his salvation and his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Perham Baptist Church and filled many positions including Vice President, Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, as well as a Youth Group Leader. For 53 years, he was married to his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Castonguay Thompson. Don had a great love for his family, church family, and work family. Don loved being a farmer for many years and being employed by MSAD #45 as a bus driver/custodian for 27 years. He became a friend to many of the children on his bus and at school. He thoroughly enjoyed transporting the sporting teams to their events. Since his early childhood, his beloved fishing spot was Beaver Brook. Don had great times there with his fishing buddies, Snuffy and Hartson. He always looked forward to the annual Father’s Day fishing trip down the Aroostook River. He took great pride in his work and in all that he did. His love to help others was apparent.
He was predeceased by his father and mother; two sisters: Joyce Corey, 68, and infant, Susan Thompson; brother, Kenny, 62; sister-in-law, Loretta Thompson; and brother-in-law, Harold Corey.
He was blessed with and survived by son, Donald Thompson Jr., wife, Lieneke, grandson, Mark and granddaughter, Jennifer, all of Holland; son, Terry, wife Angela, granddaughters: Taylor and Danielle, and grandsons: Justin and Devin, all of Washburn; daughter, Cynthia Huston, and husband, Thomas of Woodland; grandson, Christopher and wife, Heather of Fort Kent; grandson, Tony and fiancée, Kristen of Washburn; brother, Richard and wife, Linda of Quitman, Texas; brother, Paul and wife, Cindy of Brewer; many nieces and nephews; beloved friends, and neighbors.
