Caribou boys collect their first soccer win

The Caribou Vikings found their scoring touch this weekend slamming Washington Academy 6-0.

Summaries of  some  of the matches played through Saturday are as follows:

Caribou 6, Washington Academy 0 – At East Machias on Saturday, Chad Caverhill scored three goals to propel the Vikings to their first win of the season. Cody Herbert, Nolan McDuffie and Lucien Caverhill scored one goal apiece for 1-3 Caribou. Dean Walker notched two assists, while Adam Collins and Austin Caverhill each had one. Matt Manter made three saves on seven shots.

Presque Isle 4, Caribou 0 – Before a big crowd at the lower field at the Caribou High School the Presque Isle Wildcats and Caribou Vikings renewed their rivalry Thursday night.

The teams played to a scoreless tie during the first half, but the Wildcats caught fire in a seven minute span to score four goals and top Caribou 4-0. Isaac Lajoie had two goals for 2-0 Presque Isle. Wilder York added a goal and two assists. Jake Player scored the other goal. Andrew Kofstad had seven saves on nine shots.

Matt Manter stopped six of 15 shots for 0-3 Caribou.

Washburn 3, Fort Fairfield 2 – Jordan McLaughlin scored a pair of first-half goals and assisted on Mitchell Worcester’s goal as Washburn built a 3-0 lead and withstood a second-half rally by the Fort Fairfield Tigers en route to a 3-2 high school boys soccer victory Thursday. Nick Bragg also had an assist and Zach Davis made five saves on 17 shots for the 5-1-1 Beavers.

Mike McLellan and Jake Wortman scored for 1-4 Fort Fairfield and Derek Dufour made 10 saves on 20 shots.

CAHS 3, Washburn 1 – At Mars Hill Tuesday, Brendan York scored off a Mike McClung pass with 15:55 remaining to break a 1-1 tie and give the Panthers a win over previously undefeated Washburn. Spencer Stetson added an insurance goal with 5:46 left, his second goal of the game. Dan Brewer had an assist and Ross Grass made two saves on nine shots for 2-1-2 Central Aroostook.

Mitchell Worcester scored off a Jordan McLaughlin assist for 4-1-1 Washburn.
