Soccer teams continue to work

    The high school soccer teams are almost midway through their seasons, with teams still looking to find their way into the playoff picture.
    Monday, the Katahdin Cougars were defeated 4-1 by visiting Bangor Christian. The score was tied at 1-all until Bradley Wilcox’s second goal broke the tie with 7:12 left in the first half. Wilcox scored two more goals in the second half.
    Patriots goalie Jay Bishop had three saves on five shots.
    For the 1-7 Cougars, Patrick Knowles scored the tying goal, with an assist from Forrest Heath. Goalie Jesse McNally stopped 18 of 37 shots faced.
    At Lee, the Houlton Shiretowners fell 4-2.
    Nick Guiod and Gage Hunt provided the goals for Houlton, which has a 5-2 record, while goalie Kole Buzzeo had 13 saves on 19 shots.
    On the girls’ side on Monday, Hodgdon was defeated 10-2 by host Schenck.
    Kensie Palmer and Britta Oliver both scored a goal for the Lady Hawks, 0-9. Jessica Neher stopped nine of 36 shots.
    Michela Desjardin’s break-away goal on Saturday with just over three minutes left in the game snapped a 2-2 tie, as Fort Kent defeated Houlton, 4-2. The Warriors Erin Chasse added the insurance goal with 1:30 left.
    Amanda Fogarty and Alana Pratt scored for the Lady Shires, while Marina Cameron stopped three of 10 shots faced.
    At Fort Kent Saturday, the Shiretowners blanked the Warriors, 2-0, behind first-half goals by Hunt and Guiod. Picking up the assists were Lucas Anderson and Alex Casillas. Goalie Buzzeo had five saves on 13 shots.
    For the Warriors, goalie Cody Plourde set aside six of 11 shots.
    Hodgdon’s Brandon Malone teamed up with Keegan Gardiner to score the game-winning goal against Limestone/MSSM with 13 minutes left in last Friday’s game, as the Hawks edged the Eagles, 1-0.
    Gardiner chipped the ball over the last of the defensive line and Malone chased it down for the uncontested tally.
    Goalie Chris Hudson was 13-for-13 for the 5-4 Hawks. For Limestone/MSSM, Brett Butler set back eight of nine shots.
    At Limestone Friday, the Hodgdon girls fell to their hosts, 9-2.
    Hodgdon’s Cassidy Clark was peppered with 66 shot attempts, as she rejected 27 of them. Oliver and Palmer provided the scoring.
    At Dyer Brook last Friday, the Warriors shut out visiting Katahdin, 3-0, behind Pat Goodall’s three goals. Cody Lassonde and Dylan Porter added assists, while goalie Jesse Boulier stopped three of six shots. The Warriors are 4-3-1 on the year.
    For Katahdin, goalie Jesse McNally had nine saves against 21 shots.
    At Houlton, the Lady Shires blanked Mattanawcook, 2-0, last Thursday as Fogarty (assisted by Tara Beals) and Mikaelah Tracy (assisted by Fogarty) each scored. Houlton goalie Cameron faced one shot.
    For Mattanawcook, Taylor Blood had five saves on 13 shots.
    Last Wednesday, the Southern Aroostook Warriors fell to the visiting Ashland Hornets, 3-0, behind Royce MacDonald’s two goals and assist. Mike Cook added a goal and Tyler Chasse an assist for the winners. Goalie JJ Dozier had 17 saves against 22 shots.
    For the Warriors, Boulier stopped four of seven shots faced between the posts.
    The Lady Warriors hosted Ashland, as well, taking a 3-1 win over the visitors behind Jillian Diaferio’s two goals and assist on Katie Goodall’s tally. Katie Prescott chipped in with an assist on one of Diaferio’s markers, while goalie Mallory Lawlor made nine saves.
    For Ashland, Kayla Cote scored on a Rachel Gillis assist, while goalie Macie Bellanceau had 10 saves.
    In other Wednesday action, the Hodgdon boys and girls hosted East Grand.
    The Hawks edged the Vikings, 3-1, with goals from C. Hudson, Matt Harmon and Malone. Goalie Tristan Larson set aside five of eight shots for the winners, while Josh Hudson added an assist.
    For the Vikings, Logan Collins gave East Grand an early lead on a Neil Noble assist. Viking goalie Alex Brittain racked up 33 saves.
    On the girls’ side, the visiting Lady Vikings brought home an 8-1 victory keyed by Shauna Beaudon’s five goals and assist. Felicia Cowger scored twice and Cassidy Woo once for the winners. In goal, Jayne Cousins turned back 15 of 18 shot attempts.
    For Hodgdon, Oliver scored the lone goal, while combining in net, Jamie Theriault, Clark and Neher combined for 10 saves on 26 shots.
