Back by popular demand! The Aroostook Fish and Game Club in Ashland will be hosting a hunter’s breakfast on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 29 at the club on the river. Breakfast starts at 4 a.m. and will be served until 9 a.m. The cost is only $6 per person and children under 10 eat for free. What a great deal!
During the breakfast, the club will be giving away a Remington 770 Sportsman Series 243 Youth Rifle as a door prize! Stop in for a hearty breakfast before heading into the woods.
Portage Lake\re-vote decision
The people have spoken. In a record voter turnout, the citizens of Portage Lake have elected Barbara Pitcairn to serve on the town’s board of selectmen. The selectperson seat was left vacant after an alleged “mishandling” of ballots during the initial election. The seat remained vacant until the associated legalities were sorted out. Because the particular selectman’s seat was for only a one-year term, Pitcairn will sit on the board for the remaining five months of the term until the spring 2012 election. She does intend to run again at that time.
Residents of the town had been entangled in the circumstances surrounding the initial vote and the chatter could be heard in all corners over the last several months. Since the re-vote, residents are now feeling “relieved and ready to move on” said a citizen who did not want to be identified. Pitcairn herself was “absolutely thrilled” with the voter turnout and says she is “excited to be involved on a level where my actions will take meaning and we can begin to move forward to make the necessary changes to allow Portage Lake to prosper once again. There are many issues that need to be addressed, but we are on our way, one step at a time.”
