NORTHPORT — The Aroostook Republican & News was presented with 12 awards during the Maine Press Association’s annual banquet Saturday evening at the Point Lookout Resort.
The MPA “Better Newspaper Contest” awards included:
• Kevin Sjoberg earned first-place honors in the people photo category and second place in the sports story division.
• Natalie Bazinet won second-place awards in three photography categories — news, feature and picture story.
• Barbara Scott placed second in the feature section category. She teamed up with Bazinet to take second place for feature headlines.
• Joe Cyr won third-place honors in the sports feature story category and he teamed up with Sjoberg to take second in the sports section division. He also combined with Bazinet to take third-place honors in the feature section category.
• Jane Mavor Small was runner-up in the sports photo division.
The entire Republican staff was recognized with top honors in the Newspapers in Education special section division.
