HOULTON — During their annual meeting last year of Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary, members pledged $3,000 to the Health Services Foundation’s Digital Mammography Campaign. Recently this group was able to present the check in keeping with their pledge promise.
“The Auxiliary’s contributions to the (Health Services) Foundation over many years has been truly significant, because here in our area of northern Maine, this small group of dedicated individuals continues to help and change, always for the best, our little corner of the world,” said Elizabeth Dulin, executive director for the Foundation. “Our Auxiliary members are all women and this campaign certainly was something that was near and dear to their hearts knowing that one-in-eight women will be diagnosed this year with breast cancer, and they wanted to do everything they could to help. They know that early detection is the best protection.

PLEDGES SUPPORT — The Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary recently presented a $3,000 check to the Health Services Foundation for its digital mammography campaign. Taking part are, from left, Joan Logan, secretary/treasurer for the Auxiliary; Elizabeth Dulin, executive director for the Foundation; and Elinor Harvey, president of the Auxiliary. Not present is Glynn Porter, co-treasurer for the group.
“Throughout the nation local auxiliaries do their best to support the causes close to their hearts, and we should always be very thankful that these organizations exist for as Margaret Meade said, ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.’”
The Gift Shop, located in the lobby at Houlton Regional, is the prime source of income for the Auxiliary and dedicated volunteers manage a shop just full of wonderful items that may be purchased by visitors to the hospital and employees. Other fundraisers such as the May Fudge Sale and the Christmas Tree of Love help add to the Auxiliary’s income.
