Koch and Eager compete in NE meet

NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. — Washburn’s Carsyn Koch has narrowly missed out on All-New England recognition in cross country.

Koch finished 26th out of 263 runners at the New England Regional Championship held on Saturday in North Scituate, R.I. Her time of 19:11 placed her just outside the top 25 and All-New England status.

The sophomore won the Class C girl’s championship two weeks ago in Cumberland.

Mackenzie Belyea of Caribou also competed and finished in 21:01 for 178th place.

Matt Eager of Presque Isle qualified for the New England meet as an individual as well and finished in a time of 17:15, which placed him 112th.

The Caribou boys cross country team, however qualified as a team.

“It was an awesome experience for our athletes and a great way to cap off an exceptional season,” said coach Roy Alden. “Caleb (Chapman) raced extremely finishing as the 23rd fastest Maine runner. Just starting a race with three hundred people and dealing with the all the confusing and the physical contact is a unique experience.”

Chapman finished in 17:31, good for 156th overall out of 275 competitors. Here are the rest of the times  and finishing positions for the Viking boys: Ron Lund, 17:48, 194th; Ryan Washington, 17:53, 205th; Jesse Sandstrom, 18:33, 247th; Kjetil Rossignol, 18:36, 250th; Lucas Kinney, 18:44, 257; and Joshua Kovach, 19:23, 271st.
