HAYNESVILLE — A tractor trailer crash on U.S. Route 2A resulted in a load of scrap metal spilling into the roadway Wednesday afternoon.
According to Maine State Police Sgt. Brian Harris, Terry Brackett, 31, of Belmont was traveling south on Route 2A in a 1999 Peterbilt tractor trailer hauling a load of scrap metal at 2:45 p.m. when he lost control on a sharp corner. The truck went off the right side of the road, striking guardrails, and rolling over onto its right side when the load shifted.
Brackett’s truck destroyed a large section of the guardrails as it rolled onto its side and spilled its load of scrap metal in the roadway and ditch. Brackett was not injured in the crash and his truck sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
The scrap metal was cleared from of the road by Maine Department of Transportation workers and was scheduled to be removed Thursday by heavy equipment. Route 2A was closed for about four hours while Trooper Jillian Monahan investigated the accident and crews worked to remove the metal. Westerdahls Service towed the tractor trailer.
Trooper Monahan was assisted at the scene by Trooper Carman Lilley, Sgt. Brian Harris and workers from MDOT.
