CARIBOU — Regardless of whether you like or dislike the weather in Aroostook County, the option is now available to “like” the people who diligently work to forecast and document the region’s weather.

Officials with the National Weather Service (NWS) Office in Caribou have announced their foray into Facebook; they’d already made 61 friends as of Friday.

Like many entities and organizations, the Facebook page does not aim to replace the Caribou NWS Website, rather, the Facebook page will compliment work done by the National Weather Service while interacting with and engaging the public.

“The goal of our Facebook page isn’t to post information that can’t be found anywhere else, but rather to showcase some of our products and services and highlight some of the more pressing weather issues,” explained Warning Coordination Meteorologist Noelle Runyan.

Posts also include fun-facts about past weather, like a recent post made regarding snow-depth totals from the Oct. 30 storm.

The weather office’s new Facebook page is also a good place for community members to post their weather-related questions, pictures — even post pictures of their local weather to help meteorologists gather data, like a picture of hail next to a ruler or information about their local snow depth.

Facebook will also be a quick and easy way to inform the National Weather Service about storm damage incurred throughout the region.
