The safety and security manager’s position will help to ensure that all of the college’s safety training, policies and procedures are maintained so that all employees and students have a safe environment to work and learn in,” said Barry Ingraham, director of facilities and information technology.

Allen will serve as coordinator for all aspects of the college’s security, which includes managing the college’s security personnel, as well overseeing campus wide safety trainings and workshops.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me. I’m truly enjoying the chance to contribute my knowledge and skills to the ongoing safety effort here at NMCC,” said Allen. “My goal is to always maintain the highest level of safety for all students, faculty and staff.”

Allen earned a degree in marine science from Southern Maine Community College in 1974 before joining the United States Navy. He worked for 25 years for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as an oil and hazardous materials specialist, before retiring in 2005 to open his own business.

For the past five years Allen has served as owner and operator of Safety Communications Cooperation located in Presque Isle. The focus of his business has been to provide organizations throughout New England with top notch OSHA regulated safety and hazardous material training.

Allen began his duties earlier this month.
