CARIBOU — Officials with the National Weather Service Office in Caribou announced that the fall of 2011 was well above normal in temperature across northern and eastern Maine, finishing the season out with roughly 10 percent less rain than average.
With a temperature mean of 47.8 degrees, fall was a full 1.1 mean degrees above the previous record of 46.7 degrees, set back in 1961.
Nearly uniform mild conditions marked the season aross the entire region , which averaged about 4 degrees above normal.
In Caribou, a new record high temperature was recorded at 82 degrees on Oct. 9, breaking the previous record of 79 degrees.
Even November will be remembered for its much above normal temperatures and significantly less than normal precipitation across northern and eastern parts of the state.
In Caribou, November had a mean temperature of 37.9 degrees — 6.4 degrees above normal.
It was the warmest November on record since 2009, when the mean temperature was 36.8 degrees.
November in Caribou was also the driest it’s been since 2001.
