Molunkus Valley Sno Drifters
By Deb Long

Molunkus Valley Sno-Drifter club members met Saturday Dec. 3 for their Christmas party. Rick and Deb Long cooked a spaghetti meal. Mary helped make the salad; Rick A. helped cook the spaghetti; and Celina helped with the set up. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
A big “thank-you” to the clean-up crew as that is just as important. After the meal,  the club held its “super raffle” with winners being: 1, Joe n Sue Christinsons; 2, Rick and Deb Long; 3, Patty Bechard; 4, Cody Brackett; and 5, Deb and Rick Long (again).
Thank-you to all who bought and sold these tickets. Mary P. sold the most tickets. The Santa raffle went to Mark Cummings. Also thank-you to Steve Bechard for making homemade Christmas ornaments for everyone. What a great job he did.
Coloring Contest winners were: 5 and under, Jada Unterriner; 6-8, Jalon Somers; and 9-12, Laren Somers. They each received a Walmart gift card. Great job kids and thank-you for participating. The “Yankee Swap” was a hoot! Sure keeps the fun in it and makes you feel like doing these things. If you missed it, all we can say is you missed a great party! Merry Christmas to all and looking forward to a great New Year!

Purple Hat Society
by Lois Downing

The Smoki Haulers Snowmobile clubhouse in Oakfield was the setting of the Christmas party for the Purple Hat Society on Tuesday, December 13. Bright lights, red and green colors, Santa Claus and a decorated Christmas tree were the features at the party.
Leader Charlotte Marley was gaily dressed for Christmas and was ‘’topped’’ by a purple hat, as well as the other 14 ladies.
The Purple Hat ladies introduced themselves, one by one, gave their name and then the Purple Hat name. Before a spaghetti dinner prepared by member Sandy Wyman, Peggy Sanders gave the meal blessing.
After the delicious meal and desserts supplied by Charlotte Durr, Delores Locke and Sandy Wyman, Christmas bags were distributed for the Christmas Cookie Gift. Everybody exchanged a gift while the reading of ‘’Twas the Night Before Christmas’’ was read. Then a comical story about a church dinner was read. Bob Locke, husband of Delores Locke, led a funny Christmas carol sing-along.
Thanks is given to cook Sandy Wyman and to Larry Sanders, Bob Locke, and Don Marley who acted as waiters.
At the ending of the program, Santa Claus made a visit and his helper was there too! The ladies voted on a January 10 meeting at Grammy’s Country Inn in Linneus. Attending were Jackie Colella from Cary; Arlene Friel from Merrill. Also from Houlton, Betty Wyman, Marsha Reed, and Paula Wyman; from Dyer Brook, Charlotte Durr, Marie Gillotti, Sandy Wyman; from Oakfield, Delores Locke, Mildred Gagnon, Evelyn Burpee, Sandra Holmes, and Bernice Campbell; from Smyrna, Peggy Sanders and Charlotte Marley.
For information on the Purple Hat meetings, you may call Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or any of the other ladies listed above. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members who were unable to be present due to various reasons.

Island Falls News

Mrs. John Stevens will be away this Christmas week visiting her family in Winthrop. She plans to return in time to celebrate the beginning of the New Year with husband, John, and their family of six pekinese dogs.
I have finally heard from sister, Phyllis, who has been in Louisiana visiting her granddaughter, Emily, there. While there they had a trip to the french quarter and enjoyed the jazz and the blues being played there. Mr. and Mrs Don McKellar are in New York to visit with their son, Peter, and will return after Christmas. I would like to say Merry Christmas to my friends who live away and subscribe to the Pioneer to get the news from home — Larry Thorne, who lives in New Hampshire and also Marion and Don Burton, who live in California.
I have had a large gray squirrel getting into my supposedly squirrel-proof feeder. Saw him jump from the tree limb onto the feeder, and then cling to it with both feet, while hanging upside down to get his nose into the space where the seeds are. They are very clever little rascals, it seems.
I have a pile of chickadees and nuthatches who wait patiently until the squirrel gets done eating. And the blue jays and woodpeckers soon arrive to get their fill, especially since it has gotten colder. After the snowfall last week I discovered some deer tracks beside the barn where I had thrown out some old bread for the crows. Hopefully they will return so I will keep tossing out the bread.

TOPS 0233, Houlton
by Lois Downing

Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 0233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, Dec. 9, meeting. Absence was down because of various reasons. Denise Clark led the meeting. Barbara Troy was the official greeter. Joyce Estey is home from the hospital after a fall.
Diane Folsom was the loser of the week, with Denise as runner-up. Denise was also the winner of the skinny dish. The program given by Denise Clark was taken from a recent TOPS magazine covering body mass, the ideal body weight and how to acquire it.
The group also met Dec. 16. Clark led the meeting. Secretary Charlotte Marley gave her minutes of the last meeting. The loser of the week was Denise Folsom with Barbara Whited as runner-up. Barbara was also winner of the skinny dish.
Diane Folsom spoke on the contest, in place of Joyce Estey, contest leader. Joyce has been hospitalized but is better and at home now. Winners of the contest were Aileen Smith for TOPS and tied for KOPS were Lois Downing and Barbara Grant.
I reported on Melva Folsom, whose husband has been hospitalized and now at the Gardiner Home Care Facility in Houlton. Charlotte Marley reported on Shirley Either, whose husband is in Bangor hospital, after suffering a heart attack.
Leader Denise read ‘’Yes, we have no prunes,’’ from the November issue of the TOPS magazine. Members are asked to please refer to page 16 for information on retreats.
The next meeting is Dec. 30 at the same location. There is no meeting on Dec. 23. If you need more information on the chapter you may call any of the TOPS members or Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or Betty Ivey at 532-9653.
Weigh-in is 8-8:45 every Friday morning with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m. and usually ending an hour later. Nobody is weighed after 8:45 a.m. to allow the ladies time to add their numbers.
Come, enjoy, socialize and lose weight. New members are welcome.
