PIHS cheerleaders capture Aroostook County title

CARIBOU — The Presque Isle Wildcats won their third straight Aroostook County Cheering Championship Friday night in Caribou.
Before a packed house Presque Isle used an athletic performance and exceptional dancing with few errors to capture the title over Houlton, which placed second. Caribou finished third. Rounding out the finishers were Central Aroostook, Washburn, Ashland and Fort Fairfield.
CHEER CHAMPS — The Presque Isle High School cheerleaders captured their third consecutive Aroostook County Cheering title on Friday night in Caribou. On Saturday, also in Caribou, the Wildcats finished fifth in the Big East championship.
In the All-Star competition, Colby Endy of Central Aroostook and Crystal Nason of Houlton received the tumbling award. Jessica Devoe of Caribou and Whitney Klein on Central Aroostook were lauded for jumps.
Caribou was honored for group stunts. The spirit award was given to Ashland. Presque Isle was singled out for team dance, motions and stunts. The team tumbling and jumps award was given to Central Aroostook.
The following day the Wildcats finished fifth in the Big East cheering competition also held in Caribou. Hermon compiled 139.8 points to win the title. Ellsworth recorded 134.4 points to finish second while John Bapst of Bangor totaled 122.3 points to finish third. Rounding out the finishers were Old Town (118), Presque Isle (116.6), Caribou (104.7), Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor (95.8), Washington Academy of East Machias (93.3) and Foxcroft Academy (92.3).
Cheering for Presque Isle are Megan Byers, Justena Cleveland, Kelsey Corriveau, Rachel Dow, Elena Ford, Brittany Good, Mary Green, Kenedy Jarvis, Cassie Lunney, Gabby McCrum, Allissa McDougal, Katelyn Michaud, Michaela Powers and Kelsie Spooner.
The team is coached by Jolene Kinney.
The Eastern Maine cheering championships are set for Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Bangor Auditorium.
